Microneedling Treatments at Wellness at the Spa
Microneedling is one of the most effective ways to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to repair and renew itself. At Wellness at the Spa, we offer three specialized microneedling treatments — each designed to address different skin concerns under the direct supervision of Dr. Sharon Wiener and our medical team.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling — also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) — uses a device with fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin. Your body responds to these micro-injuries by activating its natural healing process: ramping up collagen and elastin production, increasing cell turnover, and remodeling existing tissue.
The result? Firmer, smoother, more radiant skin — without surgery or significant downtime.
Beyond stimulating collagen production, these micro-channels also temporarily increase your skin’s ability to absorb active ingredients applied during or immediately after the treatment. This is why microneedling is so commonly paired with a targeted serum — the combination delivers results that neither approach can achieve as effectively on its own.
At Wellness at the Spa, microneedling is performed by trained medical professionals in a physician-supervised setting, so you can feel confident that you’re receiving safe, high-quality care from start to finish.
Benefits of microneedling
Microneedling can address a wide range of skin concerns and support overall skin health. Some of the most commonly reported benefits include:
- Reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improved skin texture, tone, and elasticity
- Minimized pore appearance
- Softened acne scars and uneven skin tone
- Deeper absorption of active skincare ingredients
- A more youthful, refreshed overall appearance
Because microneedling works by activating your skin’s own healing mechanisms, results tend to build gradually and improve with each session.
The three types of microneedling we offer at Wellness at the Spa
Microneedling with hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a sugar molecule your body produces naturally to retain moisture in skin tissue — it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. As we age, natural HA production declines, contributing to dryness, dullness, and loss of plumpness.
When applied during and immediately after microneedling, HA floods the newly created micro-channels with deep hydration that topical products simply can’t achieve on their own. This treatment is an excellent choice if your primary concerns are dryness, loss of volume, uneven texture, or early signs of aging.
Best for: Hydration, plumping, fine lines, and overall skin texture.
Microneedling with PDRN
Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) is a highly purified DNA compound with documented regenerative properties. It works by activating specific cellular receptors that signal the skin to repair and regenerate — promoting collagen synthesis, supporting a healthy skin barrier, and helping to calm post-treatment inflammation.
Unlike hyaluronic acid, which functions as a hydrating agent, PDRN is bioactive: it communicates directly with your skin’s cells to support the repair process from within. It’s frequently used as a recovery-enhancing addition to microneedling, given its anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe the skin after treatment.
Best for: Skin repair, rejuvenation, anti-inflammatory support, and patients seeking a more regenerative approach without a blood draw.
Microneedling with PRP
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy — sometimes referred to as the “Vampire Facial” — uses your body’s own biology to amplify the results of microneedling. A small sample of your blood is drawn, processed to concentrate the growth factors found in your platelets, and then applied to your skin during the microneedling procedure.
These growth factors work alongside the micro-injury response to accelerate collagen stimulation, support tissue healing, and improve overall skin tone and texture. Because PRP is derived from your own blood, it’s naturally compatible with your body and carries a low risk of adverse reactions.
Best for: Collagen stimulation, skin tone improvement, acne scarring, and patients looking for a more intensive regenerative treatment.
What to expect from microneedling treatments
A typical microneedling treatment plan consists of one to three sessions, spaced at least four weeks apart, with maintenance sessions as needed.
We recommend three initial microneedling sessions spaced four weeks apart because collagen production is cumulative. That means that while the first session triggers the healing response, the second session will build new collagen, and the third session will maximize the structural improvement in your skin.
After your initial three sessions, maintenance sessions for microneedling at our Plano, TX medspa range from quarterly touchups to six-months touchups, with some patients returning once a year after their initial sessions. This depends on your progress, the previous damage to the skin, and any other unique biological factors for your skin.
One important thing to note: because microneedling requires your body’s participation in healing, we do not recommend having any plans the same day as your treatment. This is because you’re may leave with some redness or swelling after your treatment.
How microneedling treatments work at Wellness at the Spa
At Wellness at the Spa, we take a thorough, personalized approach to every treatment — microneedling included. Here’s what you can expect:
First, you’ll book a consultation with one of our providers. We’ll take the time to understand your skin concerns, review your medical history, and assess your skin to determine which microneedling treatment is most appropriate for your goals.
Next, if you’re a good candidate, we’ll build a medically supervised treatment plan tailored specifically to you. This will outline the type of microneedling treatment recommended, the number of sessions suggested, and how your treatment can be combined with other anti-aging services we offer at Wellness at the Spa for enhanced results.
Then, your treatments will be carried out by our licensed medical team under the oversight of Dr. Sharon Wiener. Your comfort, safety, and results are our priority at every step.
Finally, we’ll provide ongoing guidance on how to care for your skin between sessions and how to maintain your results over time.
