Beauty and Pain Relief in a Bottle

Like it has done with so many things in our world, COVID-19 has changed the landscape of beauty and wellness. Face-masks have become a requirement and show no sign of leaving for quite some time. Having to wear them every day has brought a shift in the world of beauty’s requests.

Botox is gently injected and can drastically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Because masks cover a large portion of the lower face, they draw obvious attention to foreheads and eyes.  This attention has led to an increase demand for Botox: an injection which relaxes the muscles in the forehead and around the eyes that create fine lines and wrinkles (i.e. worry lines, crow’s feet and that vertical wrinkle between your eyes known as the “11”). Botox injections create a smoother, younger appearance and help clients achieve an entirely new level of self-confidence.  Results can be seen within a few days, with the full result achieved in 2 weeks. The benefits of Botox can last anywhere from 3-6 months.

In addition to the stress and anxiety that COVID-19 has created from a medical perspective, it has also caused severe emotional stress to individuals as schools and businesses have closed and jobs have been lost. Recent studies have revealed a tremendous rise in stress levels across the United States, and this has contributed to stress related tension headaches, migraines and TMJ. TMJ is a painful condition that can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.  In cases where traditional remedies (anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers) aren’t enough, Botox injections into the jaw muscles used for chewing have been shown to relieve pain associated with TMJ disorders.

In addition to being used for cosmetic purposes, Botox can be used to treat TMJ, a painful jaw condition.

Wellness at the Spa is physician-owned and operated, and our Botox injections are performed by skilled nurse-practitioners. Whether you are wanting to freshen you for face-mask face or seek relief from TMJ, let our caring and competent staff help you reach your wellness goals!  Call us today: 214-489-7757

You, self-improved.

As September bids farewell to Summer and ushers in Fall, it also brings National Self Improvement Month: a month literally devoted to bettering yourself in any area of your life. While some might want to focus on improving their mental or physical health, others might want to improve their career, finances or personal relationships.

This year’s Self Improvement Month is particularly more meaningful in light of the physical and mental stressors that living through a world-wide pandemic has created.

National Self Improvement month is meant to be a month of self-check-in, re-evaluation and change for the better. Here at Wellness at the Spa, we are huge proponents of this type of lifestyle. Our goal is to always make you feel your best, and we’ve compiled a list of ideas to help you in your month-long journey of Self Improvement.

  • Intellectual Wellness – reading is a great way to gain inner-insight and wisdom, not to mention improve your vocabulary and intellect. Whether you want to read an actual book about self-improvement or just get lost in fiction, reading is one of the best ways to increase your mental stamina.
  • Mental Wellness – Speaking of mental stamina, promoting positive mental wellness is essential in self-improvement. One way to clear your mind of things that are worrying you or holding you back is journaling. Whether you jot down a few sentences about yourself, or get lost in writing pages (or even chapters!), the simple act of putting pen to paper and focusing exclusively on yourself is empowering. It also forces you to take a step back to reflect rather than react, which will only help your chances of being successful in your self-improvement goals.
  • Physical Wellness – As the hotter temps of August yield to cooler ones, now is a great time to take a morning or evening stroll outside. Instead of bringing ear phones to accompany your walk, try going solo and simply listening to your own thoughts. The idea of not constantly having background noise to listen to can be stressful for some, but the more you practice just listening to your inner voice, the easier it will be for you to identify aspects of yourself that need improvement.
  • Getting out of your Comfort Zone – Doing the same things every day, or reacting to situations the same way, breeds monotony and prevents growth. In order to truly grow and improve, we must constantly learn new things about ourselves, and changing up our routines allows us to do that. Because of Covid-19, many colleges are offering free courses online. You can also use online classes for fun: from taking private singing lessons, participating in at-home-workouts or even learning a new language.
  • Keeping it Simple – trust us, we know there are tons of products and regimens on the market that come and go: miracle workouts, fad diets and hacks that provide instant results with little work. We all know from experience that these types of Quick Fixes never last and are generally unhealthy for many reasons. Adopting a lifestyle that incorporates a balanced diet and disciplined exercise regimen has always stood the test of time. Couple this approach with our all-natural supplements and wellness products, and you’ll be set for success each and every month.
  • Let us help you – All of our services are physician led, which means that they are medically sound and designed to make you feel your best, beginning from within. Whether you are wanting to lose weight, boost your immune system or simply improve your energy and metabolism, we have IV Therapies, Injectables and medical-grade supplements to fit your needs. We encourage you to email or call us today at 214-489-7757 to begin your journey to a self-improved you!

Seasonal allergies are nothing to sneeze at!

food Allergy Services, allergy clinic, running nose, allergy testing for seasonal allergies, Outdoor allergies, Indoor allergies and food allergiesallergies, Allergy Services, allergy clinic, running nose, allergy testing seasonal allergies Outdoor allergies Indoor allergies

During this unique time and managing patients thru COVID-19, seasons still present the same allergy concerns!

We’re here to help offer relief and peace-of-mind!

As any North Texan can attest, spring and summer usher in an array of horrible allergies to our area due to the high level of pollen produced by trees, flowers, grasses, weeds and other plants. In fact, research by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation reveals that Dallas ranks as the 23rd worst city in the country for allergies!

Seasonal allergies can wreak havoc on the outdoor activities– and that are so important to your wellbeing.

What are the symptoms of seasonal allergies?

Seasonal allergies can cause a wide array of symptoms, including:

  • Persistent stuffy and runny nose
  • Sinus pressure that may cause facial pain
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Scratchy throat
  • Persistent coughs, sneezing and/or wheezing
  • Increased asthmatic reactions

How do you determine the causes of seasonal allergies?

Our allergy specialists offer the safest and most state-of-the-art testing to determine the cause of your allergies.  Following are two common tests we utilize:

  • A skin test in which a drop of purified liquid form of the allergen is dropped onto your skin, followed by a slight skin prick. If you react to the allergen, the skin will swell a bit in that area.
  • A skin test in which a small amount of allergen is injected just under the skin. This test, when positive, will result in a small lump surrounded by a reddish area at the injection site.

What are the most effective treatments for seasonal allergies?

We offer several proven treatments for seasonal allergies, depending on how severe the symptoms are.  Once we determine the allergens, some people can get relief by simply reducing or eliminating exposure to the allergens that bother them.

Additional treatments and recommendations may include:

  • Keeping indoors when the pollen/mold/weed counts are especially high. It’s also helpful to keep the windows closed and wash their hands or shower/change immediately after being outside.
  • When reduced exposure isn’t possible or is ineffective, there are medicines we may recommend, including decongestants, antihistamines, and nasal spray steroids.
  • If symptoms can’t be managed with medicines, we may recommend allergy shots (immunotherapy), which can aid in desensitizing you to specific allergens.

If you are showing any of the persistent symptoms of seasonal allergies, schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience to get tested.  Our goal is to literally nip the allergies in the bud and help you enjoy the great outdoors like you want, need and deserve!

What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)?

What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)?

Platelet rich plasma therapy has hit the mainstream for a few good reasons. It is a popular choice for professional athletes seeking to boost their recovery from intense training or injury. This type of therapy is also being favored by healthcare providers to aid in soft tissue healing and hair growth. However, PRP is something that is still relatively new. Famous athletes like Troy Polamalu, Tiger Woods, and Hines Ward have all reportedly received positive results after undergoing PRP treatment. However, medical researchers are still working on getting a better understanding of the benefits of PRP. In the following, we’ll go over just what PRP is and how it can benefit you.

What is PRP?
Platelets are the blood cells in our bodies that are responsible for many functions. Platelets promote blood clotting. They also are made up of certain proteins that are designed to help us heal from injuries. The idea is that when you inject affected areas with high amounts of platelets, it can then promote faster healing.

First, your doctor will take a blood sample from your body and then will extract the platelets from this sample. This is done in through a process in which the blood is spun at high speeds. The extracted platelets are next injected in the region that needs treatment.

Benefits of PRP
PRP can be used to heal faster from injuries. PRP is also useful in reducing chronic inflammation. PRP is a favored method of therapy for patients of ligament injuries. Ligaments typically take a while to heal. Platelet-rich plasma can also be injected into your scalp to reduce hair loss by reducing inflammation.

A study in 2013 showed that PRP therapy reduced the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Researchers are also checking if PRP can help individuals recovering from broken bones.
PRP also has minimal to no side effects. At most, patients have slight irritation or pain surrounding the area where they received the PRP injection. After receiving treatment, you can easily return to your daily routine.

Platelet rich plasma injections show loads of potential. These injections are already being reported to be effective in improving our ability to recover from injuries to our tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Unfortunately, this kind of therapy has yet to be covered by medical insurance, but we’re hoping this changes soon. We suggest reading more to get a better understanding of how this therapy can help you! Contact Us Today!
